AM3354: DDR3 and PMIC questions

Part Number: AM3354
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65910

Dear Team,

My customer is using AM3354.

As PMIC they are going to use TPS65910A3A1RSLR.

Here some questions:

1) On page 173 of the datasheet of AM335 there is an image with the connection of the DDR3 with the "Vtt Termination" (figure 7.47).

On the next page there is the image without the "Vtt Termination" (figure 7.48).

Considering that customer will use a DDR3-1600 (MT41J128M16JT-125), can customer use the configuration without termination? Also considering that the MPU-DDR3 connection is point-to-point with only one memory chip.

Other question regarding PMIC to be used with AM3354 (may be you can also answer here):

1a) By default on the SWIO output (pin14) there is a voltage of 1.5V to be used for the DDR3.

If customer wants to use a 1.35V DDR3, does customer need to buy another p/n or can he dynamically change the voltage at start up via I2C?

1b) Using an 800MHz AM3354, customer should raise the voltage of the MPU (output of the PMIC SW1, pin35) from the default value of 1.1V to 1.26V.

Can customer do this step dynamically when he starts the device, or is there a dedicated p/n?

Many Thanks,

Antonio

  • Hi,

    1. See section 7.7.2.3.3.9 of the AM335x Datasheet Rev. J, especially:
"System performance should be verified by performing signal integrity analysis using specific PCB design details before implementing this topology."
    2. TPS65910 does not have a 1.35V version from what I know. However all DDR3L parts are DDR3 compatible, i.e. they can operate at 1.5V.
    3. This is done by software after device startup.
