What DaVinci processor can do real time MPEG-2 720p60,1080i60 and 1080p24 HD encoding?

Hello,

I'm looking for the following specs:

  • real-time MPEG-2 encoding
  • BT.1120 or raw video input
  • HD resolutions: 720p60,1080i60 and 1080p24
  • MP@HL. Only I & P frames is OK if desired bit rate is achievable
  • s/pdif or I2C audio input. Receives AC-3 compressed audio and muxes into transport stream output (no audio compression needed)
  • Transport stream output. Constant bit rate of 26.97 or 38.81 mbps (for 64/256 QAM modulation)
What is the lowest cost DaVinci (if any) that can do this?

Thanks
  • Currently the only device with a MPEG2 encode solution is the DM6446 however it would not be able to meet the performance requirements for your resolutions and framerates. The best option today would probably be the DM6467 if you could get a MPEG2 encode codec developed for it (perhaps through a third party). This may also be possible in the future with DM365, when a MPEG2 codec is made available

  • Thanks for your reply.

Based on the selector tool I thought that there was a MPEG2 encode codec available for the DM6467 for up to 1080i/p. Or is the selector tool based on potential applications?

  • I think that is a shortcoming of the selector tool, the selector tool is just figuring if the part is capible of encoding anything and if it is capible of doing any MPEG2 work, so when you select Encode and MPEG2 it is still picking up DM6467 since DM6467 can encode (h.264 for example) and can handle MPEG2 (decode only). You could also argue that this is a potential application, the DM6467 is certainly capible of MPEG2 encode, there just is no software to leverage that capability.

For figuring out what codecs are available for what products I typically go by the software inventory tab on www.ti.com/digitalmediasoftware, here it is noted that there is a MPEG2 decode for DM6467 but no MPEG2 encode.
