xds560 Emulator Problem

hi ,ALL

I have installed xds560 emulator and when i connect it via usb port.. it is given following msgError initializing emulator

Board Name: DM6446 XDS560 Emulator
Cpu Name: ARM9_0

Abort:        Close Code Composer Studio.
Retry:        Try to initialize the emulator again.
Ignore:        Ignore the initialization error and start
        potentially without target debugging access.
Diagnostic:    Run diagnostic utility.

how to solve that Problem.

thanx in advance

  • The XDS560 is a PCI card.  It cannot be connected to USB.  If you are actually referring to a USB-based XDS560-class emulator, you should import the DM6446 setup for that emulator.  The one you list is for the TI XDS560 PCI card.

Using the correct import for yuor target and emulator combination should do it.

JUST rememeber to set the GEL files for your target board if not defined.

  • but i have XDS560R and it usb based

can u suggest me where 2  download driver for XDS560R

    I Have downloaded this driver

    setupXDS560RCCSPlatinum_v30329A

  • You should be able to get imports from the emulator vendor's web site.

  • I have a couple of suggestions, first I would make sure that you downloaded the drivers and followed the instructions from the Spectrum Digital website here. Note that the latest driver package suggests using CCS SR11 so you will likely want to go into Update Advisor from under the help menu of CCS and update to the latest SR if you have not already.

Though I have not had an opportunity to work with the XDS560R, I have worked with other SD USB based emulators (mainly XDS510USB) and if you are not getting proper emulation initialization you may want to try another USB port on your PC. I have seen some funky situations in the past where certain USB ports on the PC will not function properly with the emulator and give you emulator initialization messages like you are seeing. Note that when you first plug in the emulator you should see Windows detect it and bring in a driver, if your emulator is not showing up properly in your computer's device manager than there could be some other USB level problem.

  • Hi all.

I've followed the XDS560R JTAG Emulator Technical Reference and the Quick
    Start Installation Guide.

Previously, I installed the Code Composer Studio v.3.3 and I downloaded
    the last emulator drivers from
    http://support.spectrumdigital.com/ccs3x_xds560r/

I plugged the JTAG to the host through USB port, and windows complete the
detection and installation of the new HW. It seems to be correctly
    installed in the Device Manager

But the JTAG leds still blink in the "ready for USB enumeration" status,
i.e. LED 0 blinking slowly and 1-3 sequencing.

I've also configured the CC Studio with the "DM6446 XDS560 Emulator with
ICEPICK_C" factory board, but when I start CCStudio, the "Error
    initializing emulator" is launched.

I think that I'm missing something simple, but I can't see what!
  • Did you update you CCS to SR11 ?

  • No i havent

but Few days back i have installed it widout updating ccs to SR11 and it was working....

now i really forget the steps

  • I don't think these drivers work without updating to at least SR2 due to the USCIF driver used. We still suggest updating to the newer Service Releases, but the bare minimum CCS install probably will not work.

Unfortunately I do not have an XDS560R to try this out, but from your last post it sounded as though you were trying to use the PCI configuration again. After installing the 560R drivers you should see a board configuration inside CCS Setup called 'DM6446_ICEPICK_SDXDS560R' which should use the appropriate driver.
