AMIC110: Product selection

Hello everyone,

we are going to develop an industrial ethernet solution.

We want to make an allready existing device able to be used as a EtherCAT-Slave / Profinet Device, this device only has an SPI-Interface with a fix protocol awaylable.

Is it possible to use the AMIC110 without an additional Host-Processor to convert the Industrial Etherent into the fix SPI-protocoll or is an external Host-Processor nedded.
(Write own firmware running on the AMIC110 which does exactly this)

If it's not possible with the AMIC110, which TI device is capable of doing this task?

The Ethernet communication is still through AMIC110 MII interface although a SPI interface for data transfer is required, do I understand correctly? If so, yes without additional host processor, it's doable with AMIC110. You may prototype your design with the AMIC110 ICE board - www.ti.com/.../TMDXICE110

The 'AMIC110 Multiprotocol Industrial Interface for Closed-loop Delfino Control Systems Training Series' may help understand AMIC110 applications. And the part 2 describes the EtherCAT and SPI signals: training.ti.com/.../Industrial-Closed-Loop-Delfino-AMIC110-Part-2.pdf

EtherCAT software on AMIC110, which is on top of Processor SDK is available from www.ti.com/.../PRU-ICSS-INDUSTRIAL-SW
And SPI driver is available from Processor SDK www.ti.com/.../PROCESSOR-SDK-AM335X

Hello Garrett,

if we run the EtherCAT-Stack on the AMIC110 and use a custom SPI-Interface, will this also be limited to the 16MHz SPI or will we be able to run it with up to 48MHz.

It can run up to 48MHz in the SPI master mode when you have EtherCAT stack on the AMIC110.
