Placement of Decoupling Capacitors for AM1806

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM1806

Please provide a recommendation for placement of decoupling capacitors for the AM1806.

The customer wants to place all the components on one side of the PCB, this will help them reduce cost during the PCB assembly.  The design house that is developing the reference design is concerned on whether the de-coupling capacitors can be placed away from the power pins. Also the power pins are five rows inside from the periphery of the BGA.

  • The decoupling capacitors need to placed as closely as possible to the pins they are bypassing. In general they can follow the rules given for the DDR layout, which states the caps have to be closer than 250 mils to what they are bypassing. If they can meet that requirement for all the bypass caps they will be ok.
