6.15 Power Management Support

Hello,

TI's 6.15 BSP, mentions in its "Bsquare WinCE BSP for TI OMAP3 Release Notes 06 15 00.pdf", section 2.4, Power Management Support, that DVFS and Smart Reflex Policy are available for "evaluation". Does that mean the the two drivers are not fully functional? What would be needed to have them complete?

Thanks,

Eugen

  • Eugen,

DVFS and SmartReflex are functional. The reason for the statement that you see is that it has not gone through extensive testing. We don't really expect issues with Smartreflex. One area where we have seen issues is with respect to the cpu policy manager that decides which DVFS OPP level to use. This results in the OPP level sometimes to be lower than optimal and leads to sluggish performance (this was observed with multimedia playback).

Having said that I would suggest that you turn these on and see if the performance is acceptable for your use cases. If there are certain cases that don't work well then please post a new thread and let us know. You should see good power savings with these features on in active mode. Some sample power numbers using a combination of these features is present in the power management appnote appendix.
