RTOS/66AK2G12: USB audio class for k2g

Part Number: 66AK2G12
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DA8XX

Tool/software: TI-RTOS

I just saw the USB audio Class for the OMAP. Do you have any plans to support K2G?

My requirement is I want to enable USB mass storage audio playback for K2G in the PASDK rtos.

My current understanding is that, just like how HDMI reads the data and passes it to the McASP buffers using EDMA.

I need to configure USB as an IO device and provide the corresponding Read/Write functions and once the data is read I need to pass the data to the McASP buffers.

I was able to write a standalone application(not configuring it as an I/O device, just a stand-alone application) to read and write to the USB pen drive. But i need help in feeding this data to the McASP buffers.

  • Hi Dikshit,

The RTOS team is notified. They will post their feedback directly here.

  • Hi,

We have USB audio class info here: software-dl.ti.com/.../Device_Drivers.html. Do you look for that for K2G device?

    Regards, Eric
  • Hi Eric,

The document you shared is for OMAPL137 platform,  I had referred this document earlier and only then got to know that the proposed solution and example are not available for K2G. Hence i asked if TI had any plans of porting the USP_DevAudioClass example to K2G.

Alternatively, I was looking at the DRI module (ringIO), to register a RingIO as an Audio IO device with the SIO and then use the USB read/write functions to write to the ringIO, which would then be read by the SIO and copied to the Input Buffers (Please let me know if this approach works). However the DRI module present in "processor_sdk_audio_01_02_04_01\pasdk\paf\pa\sio\dri" is for BIOS_VERSION=6_21_00_13 and i am currently using BIOS_VERSION=6_46_05_55. Can you please offer help or direction on how to port this module to the latest BIOS_VERSION.

  • Hi,

You mentioned processor_sdk_audio_01_02_04_01, can you clarify what the download link is? Is that coming from Processor SDK RTOS Automotive?

    Regards, Eric
  • Hello,

I'm not  certain if you want to read audio sample from the USB pen drive and play audio via McASP or if you actually want to play audio via USB Audio class (i.e USB carries the audio stream to a USB Audio device?)

    Best regards

    Thanh

  • @Eric:
We are presently using the performance audio SDK to enable the usb playback on DA10x platform. (PDK version 1_0_6)

    @Thanh:
We require both the use cases you mentioned.
    1. USB MassStorage audio playback feature. (Not sure if we can use McASP as i dont see any physical connection between the USB periphiral and McASP ports).
    2. IPhone audio playback via USB using IAP2 protocal.

Currently i have a usb application running on the arm processor which would read the data from USB pendrive and also recieve audio data from iphone and store it in a local buffer.
Need help on how to feed this data to the PASDK for playing audio.
  • Hi,

Thanks for the info! For the K2G and USB audio class, it is planned to support sometimes next year in the Processor SDK RTOS. For your current usage of PASDK, I will check and get back to you.

    Regards, Eric
  • Hi Eric,

    Any update on this.
Could you also let me know if it is possible to implement the USB playback using RingIO(DRI module) as mentioned earlier.
If possible, then can you also point some direction or documentation of the API changed from BIOS_VERSION=6_21_00_13 to BIOS_VERSION=6_46_05_55,which i can refer to while porting the DRI module.

  • Hi,

Sorry, our developer for the PASDK is out of office and expect to return in the Sept. I will check with him when he comes back.

  • Hey Eric,

Any update for your end ?
I tired to port the DRI module to the BIOS_VERSION=6_46_05_55, eventually realized that the DRI module is using the API of RingIO which are provided as libraries in the following path. No source is available.
    pasdk\paf\pa\cust\z14\dsplink\dsplink\dsp\export\BIN\DspBios\DA8XX\DA8XXGEM_0\DEBUG

However there is a format mismatch, the lib present in the above path are of TI-COFF format, and my test_dsp.out is of ELF format.
Since source code of RingIO is not available, rebuilding it is not possible.
Is there any ways to resolve this issue ?

  • Hi,

I checked the issue from our development team for rebuild the pasdk\paf\pa\cust\z14\dsplink\dsplink\dsp\export\BIN\DspBios\DA8XX\DA8XXGEM_0\DEBUG. The answer is most likely no. This code shouldn’t have been included in the PRSDK (audio demo) release. This is legacy DA8xx code, and should be removed from PRSDK as part of the PAF repo cleanup which needs to be done.

Given the library is COFF, you may rebuild the test application using COFF as well for testing?

    Regards, Eric
  • Hi,

Rebuilding the entire pasdk for COFF will not solve my issue, because there are other ASPs which are build for ELF format.

RingIO was one method which i felt could be possible. But since it is a dead end. Is there any other possible method which i can use to support the USB playback.

  • Dikshit,

Sorry, I don't know. Please check Veeranna Hanchinal locally if any other approaches, may be you have some direct channel to contact the TI engineers who worked this before?
