66AK2G12: PMIC for 66AK2G12

Part Number: 66AK2G12

Hi,

It seems like the reference design (EVM) is using TPS65911A for 66AK2G12 device, but my understanding is

  • 66AK2G12-1GHz => Recommended PMIC part should be TPS65911A
  • 66AK2G12-600MHz => Recommended PMIC part should be TPS659118

because CVDD is difference between these devices (CVDD of 66AK2G12-1GHz is 1.0V, on the other hand, 0.9V for 66AK2G12-600MHz). If TPS65911A is used for 66AK2G12-600MHz as a PMIC, I`m wondering if the default EEPROM of PMIC has to be modified to meet 66AK2G12-1GHz spec before mounting the part on PCB. Correct ?

Best Regards,
NK

    No, you shouldn't need any modifications in this case.

  • Hi Yordan,

    I`m not sure why you could say so -- Data state states providing CVDD 1.0V with TPS65911A violates CVDD max spec on 66AK1G12-600Mhz.

    Can you clarify ?

  • Hi,

    I've messed up the TPS part numbers & was looking at the wrong datasheet. You are correct, TPS65911A provides voltages in the range of 1.0V to 3.3V with a 50-mV step.

    Also forgot to mention about your statement regarding the EVM. The 66AK2G12 EVM uses TPS659118, see page 47 & page 48 of the schematics:
    www.ti.com/.../sprr302.pdf

    In this case, why don't you follow the 66AK2G12 Schematic Checklist Recommendations given in section 2.2.1 PMIC:
    www.ti.com/.../sprac54a.pdf

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Hi Yordan,

    The document you have shared states:

    • Review the TPS659118 User’s Guide for 66AK2Gx Processor (SWCU176). Also check the product
    data sheet for specific part numbers to be used for the 66AK2Gx operating at 600 MHz.. The following
    part numbers are recommended:
    TPS659118
    • Review the TPS65911A User’s Guide for 66AK2G12 Processor (SWCU187). Also check the product
    data sheet for specific part numbers to be used for the 66AK2Gx operating at 1 GHz. The following
    part number is recommended:
    TPS65911A (implemented on the 66AK2Gx GP EVM)

    This answers to my question.
    In summary, my understanding was correct and the recommended PMIC part on 66AK2G12 is :
    - 66AK2G12-1GHz => TPS65911A
    - 66AK2G12-600MHz => TPS659118

  • Hi NK,

    You are correct. The TPS65911A is programmed to provide the 1.0V needed the CVDD rail of the 1GHz version of the part. The TPS659118 is programmed to provide the 0.9V needed the CVDD rail of the 600MHz version of the part. The TPX65911A is programmed at the factory and cannot be reprogrammed in the field. The TPX65911A does allow you to change the voltage of CVDD using the I2C interface but the correct initial voltage is needed to ensure that the K2G boots correctly after initial power up.
