Not able to debug C6455 Evaluation Module

Hi,

My customer has bought a C6455 Evaluation Module along with XDS560 emulator. When he tried to launch & connect CCS, after installing all the provided software, it failed giving the following error:

1) 0x80002280/-1260- Fatal Error During Target Communication
2) 0x80000240/-1166- Invalid data scanned  by the emulation controller

The same error keeps coming everytime. We tried communicating with the DSK through the embedded JTAG emulator as well as the external emulator but failed. I tried connecting the daughter card as well but that didn't make any difference. All the switch settings are the default ones.

A basic test utility also gets installed when CCS was installed. This could be used to test various peripherals like DDR etc. When this is tried, it failed in the very first step saying that USB connection is not proper and tests could not proceed further. All the software was re-installed as well but no luck.

I tried going through the documentation coming along with the kit but could not find much.

Has anyone faced this problem earlier? Are there any switch settings which are stopping CCS to communicate with the EVM? Please help as the customer is blocked and could not proceed further.

    Anuj,

    It is tough to be in the intermediary position. If you can get your customer to join this thread, it will help both them and you.

    Which XDS560 are they using?

    Which version of CCS are they using?

    Things to check would include the following:

    1. Switch settings. Find out what each switch means and make sure they are what you want (No boot), ignoring the "default".
    2. Emulation setup. Your second error message implies something is wrong in the scan chain.
    3. Emulator diagnostics. Some emulators include helpful diagnostics to tell you how well the scan chain is working and what is on that scan chain. SDConfig can reset and test the scan chain, and BHProbe batch files can report back what is seen in the scan chain.
    4. Try using your laptop to connect with their emulator and their EVM.
    5. Try their computer with another emulator and their EVM.
    6. Try their computer with their emulator with another C6455 EVM or another C64x+ DSP EVM.

    If none of this leads you to a solution, we can have this thread moved to the Code Composer Forum where they discuss emulation issues in more detail.
