TCI6630K2L: Custom designing TCI6630K2L evaluation board

Part Number: TCI6630K2L

Hi,

I am looking at TCI6630K2L eval board schematic. And I am wondering that if XCS300 FPGA is really required or not as it is only controls reset and boot configurations of the SOC over BMC. So, can I knock it out from my design. Please suggest..

Thanks,

Muthu

  • Hello,
Ther FPGA is used to provide extensions for GPIO for both BMC, and for the GPIO for the FMC connectors. In a custom board design, if you can directly connect your GPIO, IQN2 timing, DFE GPIO, SPI, UARTs without muxing, then you could remove the FPGA. Most of the custom boards we have seen have Pin Muxing in the CPLD FPGA beyond the standard SOC pin muxing.
I would review each interface to see what IO is needed and how many.
