Driving a CCIR601/656 LCD from Am1806 LCD controller

It is not clear to me if the LCD controller can output a CCIR601 or CCIR656 8-bit format. We're using a 320x240 color LCD panel which has either 24-bit RGB interface or a CCIR601/656 8-bit interface (Am1806 only has a 16-bit output for the LCD interface). Am I correct in assuming that the microprocessor's LCD would be used in a "LCD Raster-Mode Passive" setting (Figure 6-54, page 188 of data sheet) to output a CCIR601 or CCIR656 format ?

From the data sheet, I think you are OK.

• Video Port Interface (VPIF):
– Two 8-bit SD (BT.656), Single 16-bit or Single Raw (8-/10-/12-bit) Video Capture Channels
– Two 8-bit SD (BT.656), Single 16-bit Video Display Channels

I do agree that the DS does not seem to be very clear on this though.

Please note that the LCDC and VPIF are different peripherals on the device.

Can you please clarify for my understanding too...

The DS implies that the device can output 656. Is this true?

The module within the device that this data comes from is not important.

Yes, the VPIF will output BT.656 video as indicated. SD refers to Standard Definition PAL/NTSC.
