Migrating from TMS320C50 to C5506

Redesigning a TMS320C50PQ board and I want to change it with the least redesign possible to avoid obsolescence in 8-10 years. The recommended replacement is the C5506. My C50 is programmed in Assembly language, so low level compatibility is the key factor in moving to a new DSP.

What major and minor hurdles will I face in the migration to the C5506?

C50 is an very old part. After asking around, I figure out that C50 and C55 are very different in terms of CPU architecture. The TMS320C50 web page says that it is replaced by C5506, which may cause customers think that C5506 and C50 are very similiar.... Unfortunately they are totally different.

If you have to migrate, you should re-write your code.
