DM6446 connection problem

I think if you can be sure that your driver of XDS560 does not have problem, I suggest you can refer to DavinciEVM FAQ  and check "switch S3" setting.

Is you JTAG from Spectrum Digital, TI, Blackhawk, or something else...? 

If it is an Specturm Digital JATG, the following forum post may help http://community.ti.com/forums/p/1060/3379.aspx#3379.  Also, where are you getting the GEL file from?  I am using the GEL files found at Specturm Digital site wihout any issues (http://c6000.spectrumdigital.com/davincievm/revf/).

unfortunately It's wasn't help , im using the gel file that you mention and yes it's blackhawk , cc v3.3 .

ccs return with the follow message:

"The gel callback "OnTargetConnect()" of the bord target is still processing.

The function could contain an infinite loop."

One of the reason I have encountered is that I do not disable "u-boot" while connecting JTAG.  So I set "switch S3" to the right position. This problem is resolved. 

you rigth,

I succeed to connect but it's takes time , sometimes 4 attempts and it's mean that I need to close ccs perform reset to JTAG and reset the bord  ,

 how can I solve that ?

The hardware has to be in a known idle state before attemting to connect to ansure nothing is interfering.  When S3 is set to NAND or NOR flash boot modes, than the user has to manually break into u-boot (to ensure u-boot does not continue and attempt to load linux kernel) before attempting to connect via CCS.  However, if there is a bug in u-boot... this approach may not work. 

The other option is to put EVM in UART boot mode via S3; in this state the hardware will not do anything but display BOOTME, BOOTME..... in UART port unless host sends it a particular sequence of data (controlled by user); therefore, when EVM is in UART boot mode, it is probrably the safest way to connect via CCS.

this is exactly the situation , my board display bootme bootme..... via uart port , but when im trying to connect with jtag CCS goes into infinite loop and I need to close everything and to try again ...

If we are using the same GEL file (it appears we are based on previous posts) and CCS 3.3 and you are in UART mode, then the only other variable would have to be the JTAG (I am using XDS510USB from Spectrum Digital).  Unfortunately, I do no have an 560 PCI-based BH emulator; I will ask around and see if any of my colleages has one.

The most common issues surrounding the DM6446 EVM target usually involve incorrect jumper and switch settings or using a 14-20 adapter that includes support for low voltage devices or adapterive clocking.  Adapters that do more than just pin conversion are not required by a Blackhawk XDS510 or XDS560-class emulators (which also support lower voltages and the DM6446 handles the adaptive clocking internally).  I also beleive that the DM6446 EVM is set for 3.3 volt I/O anyway.

In reading this entry, it may still be jumper/switch settings being that you can now connect, but not after a couple attemps (we don't see this happen).  The following has helped many users in the past to setup the DM6446 EVM for debug via JTAG:

• You must disable U-boot on DaVinci (not the default). To stop booting from U-boot, move S3-1 & S3-2 to the OFF-OFF position. 
• You also need to make sure J4 is still set to FLASH.
• Then move S3-4 to the ON position to have the DSP boot on Reset.

maybe im missing something , is the "switch setting" that you talk about is some kind of jtag connector  ?

If your JTAG adapter is 14-in, then you will need the 14-to-20 pin adapter.  The Davinci JTAG connector on the EVM is 20-pin; I believe there is a 14-pin connector for MSP430 as well, but you are probrably interested in connecting to 20-pin JTAG connector on EVM (hence the adapter is needed).
