Power Consumption for the C6A816x/AM389x

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L138

Could TI please provide a rough estimate of the C6A816x's power consumption?

I am looking into the design of a compatible power supply.

The C6A8168 is about 4x faster than an OMAP-L138 so would power consumption be about 4x more as well?

  • I am not looking for anything very specific.

If one were to connect a multimeter in line with the DC input on the TMS320C6A816x EVM, what would it read?

Or, what is the power supply's current rating for all the C6A816x voltage rails?

  • C6A816x power consumption is in the 5W range at 1GHz.  More detailed power characterization is ongoing.

  • Downloaded Power spreadsheet for C6A8168. How is case tempearature related to wattage figure. Why is the case temperature field editable?

When I reduce the case temperature wattage reduces. How is the calculation done, how could I gurantee lowering case temperature for keeping lower wattage without any changes in processor, DDR frequencies.

  • Also, the baseline wattage shown is 4317mW, what are the conditions (which interfaces are active) for estimating baseline wattage for CVDD?

  • Mahesh,

The app note that comes with the spreadsheet explains the various components of the spreadsheet.  Lowering the case temperature implies that some type of system cooling solution is being used to lower the device temp, which will result in lower power consumption.

Also, I recommend in the future to create a new forum post rather than adding to an answered post so that your question doesn't get missed.
