Powering DSP

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320DM6437

Hi to everyone,

I would like to ask a question about powering my TMS320DM6437.

I have seen the reference design from the EVM (they use 3 DC/DC converters) and also the application note "5Vin DM643x Power using a PMIC (Multi-output DC/DC Converter)  (slta066.pdf)". Actually I would like to use just one DC/DC converter so I decided to go for the multioutput. But when analyzing the sch, I realize that they use the 3.3V output as the core output, instead of using the 1.2V / 0.8 A output that this converter has.

¿Is this because 0.8 A is not enought for supplying the core?

Thanks in advance,

Nuba.

I would say that SLTA066 used the output of DCDC1 because it has a higher current rating and therefore would provide margin when powering the DM6437.  The DM6437 Application Note, TMS320DM643x Power Consumption Summary (SPRAA06) provides for the ability to estimate the power consumption based on your use case.
