TDA3: TDA3M - eMMC support

Please answer below questions also,

5) Shall i use SPI flash & eMMC/micro SD Card for Booting?

6) if I am using eMMC/micro SD Card for booting is ther any capacity limitation?

Hi,

1) TDA3 does not have a MMC port compatible with eMMC nor SD card. The MMC port is limited to SDIO functionality only.

5) TDA3 is best suited for boot from quad SPI flash. Other options are 1-bit SPI and parallel XIP flash, but the latter is not preferred due to higher pin count.

Hi Ganesh,

As per TDA3x's datamanual -> MMC interface is compliant with the SDIO3.0 standard v1.0, SD Part E1 and for generic SDIO devices. It
supports the following applications:
- MMC 4-bit data, SD Default speed, SDR
- MMC 4-bit data, SD High speed, SDR
- MMC 4-bit data, UHS-I SDR12 (SD Standard v3.01), 4-bit data, SDR, half cycle
- MMC 4-bit data, UHS-I SDR25 (SD Standard v3.01), 4-bit data, SDR, half cycle

In particular, eMMC (managed NAND) devices are not supported. Mass storage, if needed by the system, shall have to be implemented in an alternative way.

Can you please clarify below points,

1) Shall we use directly the Micro SD card? if yes please mention maxium capacity tested and supported in EVM

2) Please share more details on the Alternative way of implementation of eMMC over SDIO port of TDA3

Ganesh,

Boot ROM code itself does not support boot from MMC.
As Lyuben said, only SDIO is supported and I'm not sure about the micro SD card connector on EVM. I hope this will be answered soon.
