Linux/DRA75: ipu2 late attach test failure

Part Number: DRA75

Tool/software: Linux

hardware: VAYU EVM XC5777X REV H

software: ti-processor-sdk-linux-automotive-dra7xx-evm-03_04_00_03

My test steps are:

1. config uboot:

[*] Enable late attach

2. modify spl.c

 u32 cores_to_boot[] = { IPU2 };

3. copy dra7-ipu2-fw.xem4  to sd card FAT bootable partion from  /lib/firmware/dra7-ipu2-fw.xem4

4. load dra7-evm-lcd-lg-late-attach.dtb and zImage by tftp on uboot

5. mount NFS as root

test result:

uboot log:

  • Hi,

Can you please confirm if the dtb used is the dra7-evm-lcd-lg-late-attach.dtb? Are you able to notice the matrix GUI on the LCD display?
Reason I ask despite loading the dtb using tftp, it could be picking up the dtb mentioned in uenv.txt (default is dra7-evm.dtb).
Also can you confirm if the firmware is still present in the /lib/firmware folder of the targetfs.
Is it possible to add the argument fdtfile=dra7-evm-lcd-lg-late-attach.dtb as the first line of uenv.txt?

    Regards
    Shravan
  • Hi Shravan,

    I made the following changes

    1.  remove tftp and nfs

    2. revert firmware on /lib/firmware

After run, matrix GUI display ok on LCD.

There is a new log on attach files.

    I have some question.

1.There is no any log msg about late-attach, I check like below, nothing to found.

       dmesg | grep late-attach

How to check the late-attach work?

2.firmware  has already load by uboot. Why we need another copy of firmware on rootfs?

late-attach feature need to double load firmware by uboot and kernel ?

    3. I could find below log after rootfs mount, which boot script trigger this log?

  • Hi Ya Lin,

Let me try and address questions 2,3 and then attempt to answer question 1.

    2. firmware  has already load by uboot. Why we need another copy of firmware on rootfs?

rootfs needs the firmware copy since the remote-proc driver configures the Linux page tables to include the remote-core firmware resources. These resources are included as part of the firmware image and is subsequently parsed by the remote-proc driver

    3. I could find below log after rootfs mount, which boot script trigger this log?

The remote-proc driver by default is built as a module. Thus the module probe is deferred till the file-system is mounted, since there is a dependency to parse the firmware image which is present in the file-system. When the file-system is mounted, the module is triggered to perform actions mentioned in 2.

    Now to answer 1.

There are no late-attach logs. If the late-attach flags are enabled in the device-tree and the boot-strapping of firmware wasn't successful in u-boot and late-attach wasn't successful you would notice error logs in the kernel and the /sys/kernel/debug/remoteproc/<proc_id>/state would indicate that the proc was offline.

If you're able to see the state as online, then it indicates that the remote-proc has successfully been bootstrapped by u-boot and late-attach has completed on Linux.

  • Hi Shravan

    Thank you for your help!

Whether remote-proc driver support late-attach feature without compile as module?
I compile remote-proc driver into zImage.
    It's seems not work.

  • Hi Ya Lin,

If you are making remote-proc built in to the kernel you need to enable user-space firmware loading as well. Please make sure the kernel configuration is updated as indicated below:

    CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER=y
    CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER_FALLBACK=y

  • Hi Shravan

My firmware operation GPIO success while load by kernel,
but it failure to operation GPIO while load by uboot.

    hardware: VAYU EVM XC5777X REV H ,
usb2 connect usb device with LED power indicator.

test case: Create firmware operate gpio6_13 (CPU pin AC10) for IPU1.
led indicator on usb device will flicker, while firmware run success.

I already upload the test case to github.

    github.com/.../ipc_gpio.git

    the uboot log are:

  • Hi Ya Lin,

You would need to explicitly disable PRCM for the GPIO instance from the kernel device tree. Please ensure the entry disable_prcm exists for the gpio instance being used by IPU. Also ensure the clocks necessary for initializing the GPIO is enabled from either u-boot / or the IPU-firmware.
