AM5716: UART boot not working

Part Number: AM5716

Sitara Team,

An AM5716 customer is having difficulty booting the device via UART.  They have checked:

SYSBOOT[] pins are strapped correctly.  SYSBOOT[5:0]=010011b (scoped)

They are using a 20 MHz crystal for OSC0.  They scoped the crystal and it seems to be working correctly.

Power supply rails are at correct voltages and stable.

When they check UART3, they see transmission at roughly 114.5 Kbaud (very close to expected 115.2K).  But the data is not correct.  AM5716 seems to be transmitting the following:

ff ff ff ff ff bd fd fe  ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
ff ff ff fa ea fd d6 a9  89 fa b2 f6 fa fe db d5
fa fe ff ff ff ff ff ff  ff ff ff bd fd fe ff ff

This is not what we expect for UART boot.  From the TRM, SPRUHZ7H, p.7503, we expect 04, 01, 05, 01, ...

Additional information: if they strap the SYSBOOT[] pins for boot from NAND, they are not seeing the chip select go active for the NAND flash.  The NAND flash is not programmed at this point, but we still expected to see the chip select go active.

Any ideas on what to look at next?

Regards,

David
