So, can we replace 6672 with 6678 on the same PCB board? I think at least the power supply requirement may be different for these devices. What should we consider when do the compatible design?

Han,
That's correct. The system implementation, including the physical routing will be identical between the C6678/74/72. Additionally, using Cores 0-3 will be 100% the same between the C6674 and C6678 from a software perspective.
They will have the same design considerations (see http://www.ti.com/litv/pdf/sprabi2). Power consumption will be less for the 74 and 72 versions of the device. Details for this will come to aid in system design, but it is correct that you can design a system for the family of devices and populate based on the performance requirement and save power where a fewer-core version of the device family is sufficient for the processing requirement.

Is it possible to turn off 4 cores in a Shannon 8 core (C6678) device via software. If yes is there a document that explains the procedure.
