DaVinci DSP Emulator

I was wondering if anyone could recommend the appropriate emulator to use for the TI DSP.

I have checked out the JTAGjet-DaVinci, and it seems to have all of the necessary capabilities, but I was wondering if anyone knew any good alternatives.

Thanks.

  • For DSP/C64x+ development I would usually suggest a Spectrum Digital or BlackHawk emulator, as those are what I have used. There was just recently a good thread that discussed this topic at https://community.ti.com/forums/t/2019.aspx

What are your most important cares? As Bernie suggested we have used the Blackhawk and Spectrum Digital emulators most and they have been largely reliable. Although I have not worked with some of these other emulators I have worked with some of our customers who struggled to even get the drivers to install correctly. Despite the cost difference you may be better off in the long run with a BH or SDI emulator.

Secondly, do you care about performance/speed? XDS510 class emulators are slower than XDS560 emulators and do not offer some of the advanced emulation features such as HSRTDX and Trace. If these types of things are don't-cares for you and cost is a concern you should probably look at an XDS510.

There are several Wiki articles on the eXpressDSP Wiki that may also be of use to you.

  • Thank you both for your speedy replies!  We have decided to go with the XDS560R USB JTAG 20-pin emulator.

You've both made me feel more confident with the purchase.

    Thanks again,

    Colin
