Linux/AM3359: GPMC with FPGA

Sir,

I am planning to interface AM3359 processor with FPGA via 16 bit asynchronous GPMC Bus.

My doubt is whether I have to develop the driver for accessing FPGA (for normal write/read) using GPMC Bus or I can use any default driver (NOR / NAND of the TI Processor) ??

Kindly give some ideas.

Hi,

The GPMC interface is memory mapped. This means that you simply write/read to an address in the GPMC memory space. The NOR configuration will be better suited for FPGA access, as the NAND configuration is more complex, transferring commands/address/data over the data bus only.

My question is whether I have to develop separate driver for accessing FPGA or not ?

I need to write/read the FPGA register via 16-bit GPMC Bus in asynchronous mode.

No, you shouldn't need to write a driver. Device tree configuration should be enough.

What kind of special file shall create after adding the GPMC node for FPGA in device tree in /dev folder ????

For eg: if we are adding SPI node under SPI0, the expected device file name would be spidev0.0

In the case of NOR a /dev/mtd* handle will be created. The should be the same for FPGA

Can u please share a sample device tree GPMC node configuration for accessing FPGA (asynchronous 16 - bit multiplexed mode ).

So that I can work out on it without any error.

I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We don't have an example specifically for an FPGA. The NOR examples provided are the best we can offer.
