What's the difference between TMS320C6748BZWT3 (obsolete) and TMS320C6748EZWTA3 (can this be used as an "drop in" alternative) ?

    The chip designation is explained in the Datasheet in Section 7.1 Device Nomenclature.

    Here is clarification of TMS320C6748BZWT3 nomenclature:
    B = Revision 2.0
    ZWT = PACKAGE TYPE 361-Pin Plastic BGA, with Pb-free Soldered Balls [Green], 0.8-mm Ball Pitch
    Blank = 0°C to 90°C, Commercial Grade
    3 = 375 MHz (Revision 2.x)
    and TMS320C6748EZWTA3:
    E = Revision 2.3
    ZWT = PACKAGE TYPE 361-Pin Plastic BGA, with Pb-free Soldered Balls [Green], 0.8-mm Ball Pitch
    A = –40°C to 105°C, Extended Grade
    3 = 375 MHz (Revision 2.x)
