Hello,

I am trying to compare the power consumption between the OMAP3 3505 and OMAP3 3725 by using appropriate Power Estimation Spreadsheet.

- 3505 is running at 25C@600MHz , SDMA&SDRC - Estimated max, USB - Isochronous, all other N/A.

VDD_CORE=272mW / Peripheral’s = 66mW / PLL's +Iq=148.99mW => The power tally full VDD_CORE is 487.44mW (Table D)!!!!

Total IC power ~ 815mW

When the same conditions are used for the power consumption estimation OMAP3 3725 , the power tally full VDD1 & VDD2 are 260+60=320mW (Table D)!!!!

The total IC power ~ 529mW !!!!!

Please clarify the differences of ~300mW?

Hello,

OMAP35x and DM37x have a similar device architecture. However DM37x processor in 45 nm process technology could archive much lower active power than OMAP35x processor in 65 nm process technology.

1. I've attached two .xls files for 35x and 37x processors. Please review and advice if the ~300mW delta is a difference caused just by technology differences?

The table "B" in the OMAP 35x spreadsheet (150mW) and possibility to adjust the USB PHY's (~156mW) power caused to these power consumption delta.

Please advice.

2. Do the operation frequency option for the OMAP3505 500 & 600 MHz only?

Vitaliy,

OMAP35x and AM35x are different device family and have different device architecture. Which two device are you trying to compare the power ? Is it AM3505 and AM3703 ?

I am tring to compare the ARM only, therefore the DSP in DM 3725 is in the OFF state.

If you are only interested in comparing ARM sub-system power between AM3505 and DM3725, please use the value in "I190" in AM35x power spreadsheet and the value in "I40" in AM/DM37x power spreadsheet.

If you have an AM3517 EVM, you can monitor the power real-time with Logic PD's new software tool, Wattson.

Logic PD released their new Wattson software for the AM3517 EVM today which will help you see actual power consumption across all power rails on the CPU and SOM design.
