RTOS/AM3356: SNMP Protocol is necessary for PROFINET by AM3356

My company is developing PROFINET with AM3356 now.I want to confirm whether I can delete SNMP protocol from PROFINET protocol in case that I do not use gateways in my PROFINET communications network.Because I assume the SNMP is only related to gateway.Is my guess correct ? Buying SNMP from HCC has exceeded our development budget.

Hi Andy,

PROFINET uses SNMP for network diagnostics. Without SNMP, the PROFINET device will be under conformance class A only, see

Hi Garrett,
Thanks for your reply,I still have two questions.
1、The device we develop is PROFINET slave.Our goal is simply to achieve that master device(eg. Siemens S7-1500 PLC) can read and write slave parameters(our device) by PROFINET Communication.Can we achieve our goal when we delete the SNMP protocol ?
2、How can we delete SNMP Protocol from PROFINET project in iSDK ? Can you provide the detailed steps(step by step)?

We do NOT recommend to remove SNMP from the Profinet device though you might be able to just comment out initSNMP().

We would like to know more about the bad effect on our devices after the removal of the SNMP protocol than the recommendations"not to remove".

Without SNMP, essentially the benefit offered by SNMP blocks in PLC is no longer available, e.g.

support.industry.siemens.com/.../monitoring-and-control-of-network-components-with-a-simatic-s7-pn-cpu-with-the-aid-of-snmp
