Linux/AM5726: Resource-friendly browser

Part Number: AM5726

Tool/software: Linux

Dear Team,

this question is not related to a concrete Sitara processor but more a question about the Linux SDK.

Our customer wants to evaluate our processors for a touchscreen display application. In the current generation, they use firefox but it turned out to be using too much memory/resources.

The Linux SDK consists of QT that also has some ways of rendering webpages. Apparently QT WebKit is not part any longer and QT moved to QT WebEnging that is based on chromium.

Is this understanding correct?
Do you have any tips how to implement a resource-friendly browser for showing the user interface?

Thanks and best regards
Martin

  • Hi Martin,

yes, that's true, QT Webkit is no longer supported and QT has moved to QTWebEngine. How much resource is considered as resource-friendly in customer application? We have QTWebEngine based browser demo integrated in Processor SDK Linux. Customer can play with that and can decide if it meets their need. QT provides lot of example applications. Customer may want to have a look at them and may want to run on Sitara Processor to see if it meets their need.
  • Hello Manisha,
thanks a lot for the answer.
Okay, good to know that QTWebEngine is part of the QT package and with that part of the SDK.
Let me propose this option & ask if they have some 'numbers' around the statement/request.
Thanks again and keeping you posted.
    Best Regards
    Martin
