AM3358: GPIO maximum current rating

Part Number: AM3358

I need to know Absolute Maximum Rating for current on a GPIO pins  GPMC_A2 and  GPMC_AD9.  We are using the pins in current sinking mode (each pin load is an LED with series resistor connected to VDD at 3v3).  In the AM335x Sitara™ Processors spec (SPRS717J –OCTOBER 2011–REVISED APRIL 2016) we see a reference current of 6ma for these pins in the DC Electrical Characteristics section 7, and also buffer strength of 6ma in Pin Attributes, section 4, however we do not see a maximum spec, other than the overall max current of 50ma for  VDDSHVx supply.  We would like to use  each of these pins to sink 7ma, which seems to work fine, but we do not want to cause a failure for long term use.

Thanks!

  • Hi,

This question has been answered multiple times on this forum. The 6mA is the maximum current at which the output voltage levels are guaranteed. In your use case the limiting factor is the maximum VDDSHVx current, which is the sum of all I/O cells powered from this rails. You should be OK with 7mA.
