Linux/AM3359: Driving FPGA connected to GPCM with Xillybus generic driver.

Part Number: AM3359

Tool/software: Linux

Hello all,

                                   We are designing a custom board based on AM3359 ice-v2.We have interfaced a nand flash and  xilinix fpga to gpmc.Is it possible to detect and drive the fpga with xillybus's generic fpga driver using the "compatible" property in dts file?

My gpmc configuration in dts file looks somewhat like this:

&gpmc {

    status = "okay";

    pinctrl-names = "default";

    pinctrl-0 = <&gpmc_pins>;

/* chip select ranges */

ranges = <0 0 0x08000000 0x10000000>, /*CSn0 for NAND*/

                <1 0 0x18000000 0x08000000>;     /*CSn1 for FPGA*/

    nand@0,0 {

        compatible = "ti,omap2-nand";

        /*deprecated*/

        /*configurations parameters and partitions goes here*/

    };

fpga{

reg = <1 0 0x01000000>; /*CSn1*/

        compatible = "xillybus,xillybus-1.00.a";

#address-cells = <1>;

#size-cells = <0>;

gpmc,sync-clk-ps = <20000>; /* Minimum clock period for synchronous mode,

....

  • Hi,

    This seems to be a driver provided by Xilinx. You have to ask them about correct usage of this driver. We have no way to replicate this and test.
  • Hi Biser,
    I understand that.But my doubt is for example,a nand flash connected to gpmc uses complatible="ti,omap2-nand" property.So the ti's driver for nand flash has any special implementation for nand devices connected to GPMC bus in particular?.Or is it a generic nand flash driver that just works on the iomapped memory space?

  • Murugan S,

    You can review the code source to see the implementation at drivers/mtd/nand/omap2.c. As you will see, it is customized for NAND in a variety of ways, particularly to interface to the ELM module for ECC checking. It may serve as a good reference for you.

    You should be able to port the "generic" driver mentioned above, but that is beyond the scope of the support we can provide here.
