OMAP 3530 output frame rate

Hi, everybody!

I am learning OMAP3530 recently, and I have 2 questions about using this chip:

1. I just want to know if I can control output frame rate (using display subsystem, for example)? If can, please give me some specific methods.

2. If I can synchronize output frames?

Thank you for any answer!

Nickolay.

  • Nickolay,

Unfortunately the display sub-system basically free-wheels and there is no direct way to synchronize the output with some other signal.

Having said this, it is possible to adjust the timing parameters of the DSS in order to affect the time each line/frame takes, so you can in essence cause the DSS to closely track some other signal. This method is completely un-supported though, but I can help you if you are interested in experimenting with it.

This will not give you an exact control over the output phase, but may be sufficient depending on your requirements.

    Steve

  • Steve,

Thank you for your answer, but if it is no direct way to synchronize OMAP output, what function of RFBI_TE_VSYNC and RFBI_HSYNC input signals? May be I can run system in MIPI DBI (RFBI) mode and control output via this signals?

    BR

    Nickolay.

  • This signal is for when the output is in RFBI mode, which we don't support.

Raster display output does not allow external synchronization.

This would require all signals including the clock to be driven from the same source and the PClk is not an input.

RFBI mode is a non-raster type interface.

  • Steve,

A non - raster interface is good enough for me, if i can synchronize omap.

This interface described in OMAP datasheets (spruf98k page 2132) , why it don't supported?

  • It is not supported due to priorities unfortunately.

We have very, very few customers who require this type of interface so we do not have any additional collateral in place to support its use.

If you are able to get it working yourself or through the support of the forums then we certainly do not stop you from using it, but unfortunately we are extremely limited in resources and support which we can apply to this.

If you do a Google search for terms like "OMAP3 RFBI" you will find a few potentially useful links.

    BR,

    Steve
