  • Hi Tony,

The Processor SDK Linux for AM65x IDK is not configured to use the display. You can take a look at the dts files and you will see that the display is NOT enabled. You should port the LCD settings in the dts & rebuild the kernel.

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Does it distinguish GPEVM and IDK by ID in EEPROM?
  • No, currently not, but when you create your sd card with the create-sdcard.sh you are prompted to choose between EVM & IDK.

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • I use this file am65xx-evm-linux-05.02.00.10.img create SD card from Windows, from the name, should be EVM.
  • Hi,

In Linux you have the following options:
    Available boards:

    1: am65x_evm
    2: am65x_idk
    3: unknown

The image is most likely done with option 3, so it doesn't have all the EVM features enabled.

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Yordan,

I use create-sdcard.sh make a new SD card with prebuild images(Install pre-build images from SDK,tisdk-docker-rootfs-image-am65xx-evm.tar.xz/tisdk-rootfs-image-am654x-evm.tar.xz), I did not see option to select EVM & IDK. the SD card can boot on the REV1.0 IDK board, but LCD still no displaying.

Please help confirm whether prebuild image contain LCD displaying?

  • Hi Tony,

It seems that you have older revision of LCD board (E2) which doesn't have the board ID programmed. The later revision E3 LCD display have the EEPROM programmed.

To enable display on E2 board, you will need to set the boot args as below and then boot the board.

    setenv name_overlays k3-am654-pcie-usb3.dtbo k3-am654-evm-csi2-ov490.dtbo k3-am654-evm-oldi-lcd1evm.dtbo

    Regards,

    Manisha

  • Manisha,

Thanks, the LCD version is E2, the EVM is TMDX654IDKEVM REV1.0. also I have a REV:E2 AM654x EVM board on hand, but was told no support anymore.

I did setenv and saveenv, reboot, still can't light LCD. below are steps I did.

    anything I missed to do?

  • Hi Tony,

I think there is a problem with the images you download. I managed to get the Display working with both EVM & IDK. I DID NOT made any changes to the boot parameters. Just installed the ti-processor-sdk-linux-am65xx-evm-05.02.00.10-Linux-x86-Install.bin & created my sd card with the prebuilt images using create-sdcard.sh. Both boards IDK & EVM booted detecting & enabling the display:

The LCD revision is E3, I used the LATEST SDK: ti-processor-sdk-linux-am65xx-evm-05.02.00.10-Linux-x86-Install.bin

    Best Regards,
    Yordan

  • My LCD is REV:E2. IDK same as yours.
  • Try installing the ti-processor-sdk-linux-am65xx-evm-05.02.00.10-Linux-x86-Install.bin and use available prebuilt images. As I said it may b e a problem with the.tar archives you download.

Also check the connection between the EVM & LCD.

    Best Regards,
    Yordan

  • Hi Tony,

Please note that the environment variable name_overlays=k3-am654-idk.dtbo k3-am654-pcie-usb2.dtbo set by u-boot needs to be overwritten at each boot.

Can you share your dmesg log after the new name_overlays is set?

    Regards,
    Manisha

  • 0652.Desktop.zip

    Manisha,

    attach dmesg, 3 files description:

1powerup.txt: power on the board, dmesg.

2setenv and saveenv and boot.txt: setenv, saveenv, boot, dmesg.

3setenv and boot.txt: boot.txt: setenv, saveenv, boot, power cycle, dmesg

  • Hi Tony,

    The boot log looks fine.

From whom did you receive this LCD panel? Did it ever work before?

Is the EEPROM on the LCD daughter card programmed? Are all the connector connected at the LCD daughter card?

Is there anything shown on the screen, such as command prompt or “please wait”?

You can try running the diagnostic image and should see some display activity. You can also try to run “modetest –M tidss” after Linux boot and let us know what you see.

    Regards,
    Manisha

  • Hi Tony,

I am not sure if you are still stuck in bringing up your LCD board up. If you are still trying to bring up the board, my suggestion will be to order the Rev E3 version of the board as the E2 board is early prototype version and not supposed to be released to broad customers and hence there is limited documentation support on it.

    Regards,
    Manisha
