TDA2P-ABZ: Maximum ISP Throughput

Hello,

I am trying to create a custom usecase in the vision SDK that captures video input from 4 image sensors at 720x1280x60fps, but I have only been able to get about 38 fps through the ISP. What is the maximum throughput of the ISP on TDA2Px? Is the ISP's clock speed increased in OPP_HIGH mode, or is there any other way to speed it up or check its current speed?

Hi Mike,

For 1280x720@60 fps 4CH, it should be possible for ISP to perform in real time. ISP on TDA2px runs at 350MHz, so even if we consider 30% blanking overhead, it should be still be able to run all four channels at this fps.
Could you please share your performance stats from the console? Lets check if this is because of the ISP or some other module in the chain, which is slowing down entire chain.

Hi Brijesh,

Thank you for your reply and the clarification. The usecase we are running is fairly complex, so it is definitely possible that something else is slowing down the chain. We are essentially running the Rearview Panorama usecase from VSDK 3.5, but it has been modified to run on a TDA2Px and use a different camera with different image quality tuning. I've attached an image of the chain, as well as the performance statistics from the console. As you can see around line 257-260 of the stats, the frame rate is reducing from 60 fps to 38 fps at the ISSM2MISP link. Any thoughts on other components that may be causing the slowdown? Is it possible that we are limited by the DDR bandwidth?

Hi Mike,

Yes, the problem seems to be in ISP. ISP is taking around 4ms, minimum time. it means it takes around 16ms for the 4 channels, this is too tight for the 60fps processing for all channels. There should be some ms of time available for the SW overhead.
One question, do you have horizontal and/or vertical flip enabled in the resizer output?
Also can you try with the OPP_High?

Horizontal and vertical flip are both disable in the ISP and I am already using OPP_High. As an experiment, I just tried turning horizontal and vertical flip on and it did not seem to have an impact on performance (I still got ~38 fps out of the ISP). However, we have added some additional WDR processing to the ISP link that may be putting additional load on it. I will try pulling this processing out and see if it improves the throughput. Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Hi Mike,

No, i was checking if you have enabled flipping. Flipping can potentially impact the performance.
With OPP_High, ISP should take around 2ms, but it is taking 4ms, almost double.
Could you please tell what additional WDR processing that you have enabled??

Are you familiar with the Guzzi plugin from MMS? It is their high quality image tuning for CMS applications and we are trying to use that code. It is doing single pass WDR processing.

Hi Mike,

Little bit, Single pass wdr flow uses GLBCE module internally, this module required few thousand cycles of blanking at the end of each frame. May be because of this GLBCE module, ISP processing time is increasing. Could you please first try running your usecase in linear mode? In this mode, this module is not used. Lets see if ISP takes 2ms in linear mode and able to run the all 4 channel @60fps.

Hi Brijesh,

I tried running in linear mode and still saw the same frame rate. I spoke with someone from MMS and it seems that the usecase should not be doing any WDR processing in the ISP in single pass mode (only in 2 pass). I also tried removing the MMS AEWB processing and that did not have an impact.

Next, I tried taking a step back and running just the stereo usecase that is included in the vision SDK, and I can only get 30 fps per second out of that usecase. I am running on a TDA2Px RVP. Is it possible that the RVP is not setting up the ISP properly? Is there a way to check what speed it is running at?

Hi Mike,

It is possible that the ISP clock is not set up correct, this is because with the performance that you are seeing, ISP seems to be running at 250MHz+. It is not running even at 355MHz, which is what we set for OPP_Norm. I think somewhere in your SBL/Uboot ISS frequency or clock source is incorrect.
By any change, has D3 modified SBL/uboot for the RVP board? Is it possible to run released SBL/uboot on the RVP board to first check this usecase?

Hi Brijesh,

The only changes I know of that D3 has made have been related to DDR configuration. These changes are required in order for the software to run, so I cannot try the released SBL on the RVP. Is there a register I can check to see if the ISP's clock is configured properly?
