AAC on DM365?

I saw this post in August regarding AAC LC on the DM365: https://community.ti.com/forums/p/8808/34385.aspx#34385 - is there any new information about the status of AAC?

I'm also confused about the DM365's codec bundle; currently it only contains G.711; will it eventually also contain AAC by default, or is this something we pay for on top of other expenses?

Any info is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Anybody have any info on this?  I did contact Ittiam to get their whitepaper on AAC running on an ARM9E, but I'm still unclear whether I should wait for AAC or start porting some other library.

    Thanks again.

  • I have heard through the grapevine that the AAC encoder for DM365 has been released.  However, I haven't found it on the TI site yet.

Does anyone know where it is?

  • Hi Tom!

If the bundle package has been released, you should be able to find it in this page:

    http://www.go-dsp.com/forms/TIDigitalMediaSWCM/index.htm

where the rest of bundle packages for other platforms are placed.

Now, I used the link that said: dm365 audio codecs, but it leads to the dvsdk download page! So I think that maybe these codecs hadn't been released yet.

I'll keep you posted for updates on this.

    Regards,

    Cristina

  • Cristina is correct; it should appear in the website above when it is officially released.

  • Juan,

Is there any date at which we can expect these to be in the DVSDK? (a month from now?  Two months?  Four months?)  A ballpark estimate would even be nice to have.

    Thanks!

  • I am trying to find a time-frame for this.  FYI, I did find internal preliminary performance numbers for these audio codecs from Ittiam dating back to April, so I am surprised they are not available yet.  I am diggin more into this issue.

  • Thanks Juan, I appreciate your efforts here.

I did manage to get a white paper that outlined the costs of the AAC encode from Ittiam, but it would be great if that same white paper was available on the TI site.  Do you know if the Ittiam encoder is the one that will be used in the DVSDK? (I just want to know if the performance figures I saw from ittiam are similar to what I can expect in the version TI distributes)

    Thanks again,

    Jeremy

  • This will likely follow a very similar model as DM355, where DVSDK will only include codecs available in base DM365 part.  The audio bundle codecs will need separate download and customers going to production with these audio codecs from Ittiam will be using DM365S part instead (normally about $1 more to account for price of audio codecs).

The Ittiam codecs and documentation will be provided by Ittiam (no TI modifications made) and hence are very likely to have the same performace numbers you saw.  Have you tried asking Ittiam if they can provide the codec(s) to you directly?  I am still working things from this angle, but it would not hurt to ask...

  • You can find AAC software codec supporting TI DSP or ARM9 in www.Quickembed.com

  • Update: we are currently finalizing the packaging of the DM365 audio Ittiam codecs and they should be available on our site by end of Oct.

Hope this helps your planning efforts!

  • Is there / will there be a User's Guide or something similar which documents all the parameters?  Any chance of an early look at the documentation?

  • Hi Tom!

I worked with the codecs provided by Ittiam for dm355. All the documentation about the codecs and parameters comes with the package, and it is provided by Ittiam. If the same path followed for dm355 is continued for dm365, you should be able to find a folder under the name docs, with several pdf's, the parameters can be found in the document -XDM.pdf. You can also find a guide that gives you the steps to build their example application.

I guess that since the package for dm365 is DM365S, the same as dm355, they should be similar.

  • Hi!

New audio codec packages for dm365 are available here   !!

I recently worked integrating a similar package of codecs for dm355 in Diego Dompe's branch available in the gstreamer-ti project, so dm365 codecs should be easily integrated.
