Linux/AM5706: GbE with IEEE 1588

Part Number: AM5706

Tool/software: Linux

Hello,

Looking at the AM5706, I noticed it has support for gigabit Ethernet.

On this wiki page I am reading that the industrial SDK for Sitara has support for PTP/IEEE 1588: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/ICSS_PTP_1588_Developer_Guide

It sounds like the 1588 support is only for protocols originating from the PRU-ICSS, which I thought could produce gigabit protocols. However, I found this wiki page that states the PRU-ICSS only supports 10/100 ethernet. Is this information still accurate? processors.wiki.ti.com/.../PRU-ICSS_Ethernet

Can the standalone GbE switch on the AM5706 utilize 1588?

Please correct any misunderstands I may have about the architecture of this processor. Thank you!

Regards,
Ryan B.

  • Hi Ryan,

The quick answer is yes that 1588 can be done on CPSW that have a Gb PHY. I am making that distinction since the CPSW can also have a 10/100 PHY attached as well if so desired.

The Linux SDK comes with a SW package that you allows you to test out of the box on the TI EVM. Here is a link that describes how to use the SW that is in the SDK file system.

    Best Regards,
