AM5728: OSC16MCAP Issue on AM572x IDK - planned fix?

Part Number: AM5728

Team, per the linked thread, there is a known design issue where OSC16MCAP pin is connected directly to ground (and does not include a necessary capacitor, which can damage the PMIC). Is there any new version of this development kit where the problem is corrected? If not do we plan to release an updated EVM with this fix?

Additionally - is there any specific recommendations regarding rework to add the necessary capacitor for EVMs showing this issue?

  • Hi,
The schematic for the AM572x IDK has been updated to reflect the capacitor needed for the OSC16MCAP pin. This will be corrected in the PCB the next time we order boards. This will be a revision update to the board and there isn't any method of specifying which revision will be shipped. While this has been identified as a problem that should not be copied onto customer designs, we have not seen any significant reports of problems with the IDK that can be traced to this issue. Since the pin in question is connected to ground under the BGA package, there isn't a possible rework to add the capacitor to current boards.
    Regards, Bill
