TMS320VC5507: TMS320VC5507

Part Number: TMS320VC5507
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C5517

We are starting a new design with TMS320VC5507 DSP to keep initial FW investment, that will be launched in Q1 2021.

Is it still recommended for new design ?

What is the expected life time, I have seen that C5517 was an alternative recommendation  ?

Thanks and regards

  • Hi Xavier Pénet,

TMS320VC5507 is in active production state. TI has no plans to immediate plans to End Of Life TMS320VC5507 and the devices are ok to order and ship. We cannot give a year that we will EOL because there are no current plans to EOL.
See our General Quality Guidelines (section 20) for more information on product longevity at:

  • Thanks Tsvetolin for your quick and pertinent feedback,

We are however considering the TMS320VC5517 as potential replacement of 5507 (much older), would you have some documentation (HW & SW) or materials listing the differences to switch from 5507 to 5517 ?

    Thanks for your help

  • Xavier ,

You can find differences between TMS320VC5507 and TMS320C5517 at descriptions on their product pages:
    www.ti.com/.../TMS320VC5507
    www.ti.com/.../TMS320C5517
In general as you found TMS320VC5507 is much older product and it is equipped with smaller On-Chip RAM volume 64K × 16-Bit (128KB) vs 320KB of Zero-Wait State On-Chip RAM at c5517.
    On-Chip ROM: C5507 64K Bytes of One-Wait-State On-Chip ROM vs C5517 128KB of Zero Wait-State On-Chip ROM.
Also some peripheries does not present on C5507 like SPI and UART (SCI).
An other advantage of TMS320C5517 is lower price.
