66AK2G02: discrete power management from K2GICE for 66AK2G12?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: 66AK2G12, TPS62180

Team,

A project was started based on the 66AK2G02 ICE (K2GICE) board that has a discrete power tree:
http://www.ti.com/product/66AK2G02/toolssoftware#desKits I assume the the latest K2GICE board is being populated with 66AK2G12 but clocked at 600Mhz. Correct?

-Assuming that a 66AK2G12 will be used but at a max speed of 600Mhz can the same power tree be used ?
I assume that the only change is to raise the TPS62180 output (Vcore) to 1V instead of 0.9V. Correct?
Or are there any other change to be done?

-Up to what speed/power consumption was the K2GICE baord power tree tested? Was it tested with a 66AK2G12 at 1Ghz and Vcore at 1V?
Do you have a discrete power tree example for 66AK2G12 up to 1Ghz?

Thanks in advance,

A.

  • Hi AnBer,

The K2GICE board has only been tested with a system speed of 600MHz and the DDR operating at 800MT/sec. The power supply solution should be valid for the 66AK2G12ABY60 operating with those limits.  If the 66AK2G12ABY100 is used than the core voltage would have to be increased to 1V but the 60 speed grade version can remain at 0.9V.  The K2GICE may come under review in the future to see if the higher speed grade can be used but that work has not occurred at this time. We don't have a discrete power tree solution for the 100 speed device at this time but the devices used on the K2GICE board are a good starting point. Determine your power supply needs using the 66AK2G12 Power Estimation Tool to determine which supplies require additional current.
