Linux/AM4379: Linux/AM4379: long time reboot issue

Tool/software: Linux

We use the am437x industry development kit with the default image, and after execute reset instruction 'reboot'.

It will stay in the following places for nearly ten minutes, then finish reset execution.

My SDK version is v05.02.00.10.

the same question appears in our own custom board with am4379.

Hello Kevin,

I am able to replicate your results of the am437x IDK taking a long time to reboot. Am437x EVM reboots in the expected (shorter) amount of time. Still digging into what the difference is.

Hi Nick,

I have found the issue. It's because of the rc.pvr.service. When i use the following commands:

"systemctl stop rc.pvr.service"

"reboot" ,

i can reboot the system normally.

How can i stop the rc.pvr.service thoroughly? Because we don't need it in our custom board.

Hello Kevin,

You could rebuild the yocto build to remove SGX PowerVR as per the Processor SDK Build Reference. I think that should do the trick. Alternatively, you could take a look at the bootup scripts to remove pvr and/or weston initialization.

Thank you for bringing up this behavior, and posting about rc.pvr.service. I have verified your results and will file a bug. Hopefully we can get this fixed in a future software release.

1. When i rebuild sdk without sgx as per the Processor SDK Build Reference, it appears some errors as below after command "MACHINE=am437x-evm bitbake arago-core-tisdk-image":

2. For the second methods, i can not find the bootup scripts to remove pvr and/or weston initialization. I just delete the softlink of rc.pvr in /etc/rcn.d, is that right?

Hi Kevin,

It seems the build issue you reported are not related to non-SGX build. I wonder if you are able to build the Processor SDK Linux 5.2 version (with SGX flavor) following the directions documented in the "Building the SDK" document.

The first question has been solved, it fails because of the poor host configurantion.

For the second question, can you give some advice?

BTW, can you offer some technical documents for making or cutting a root file system?

Based on my discussion with our developer, you approach for the second question is correct and you could always rename the script to something else, for example, weston_noused.

Update for future readers: the am437x "long time to reboot" issue was fixed in Linux Processor SDK 5.3. Thanks again to Kevin for reporting it!
