Voice Codec on DM365

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320DM365, TPA2001D1

Hello all

I am new to TI DM365, and TI processors in general. I discover audio too!

I was comparing the DM355 and DM365 for a low cost system including sound capture. It has not to be CD perfect sound so a voice codec can match my requirements. On the DM355 there is no voice codec, and all schematics I saw used the TLV series devices I2S connected to the DM355, on which a MIC and a loud speaker were connected.

On the other hand, on DM365 I saw application schematics connecting directly the MIC and the loud Speaker to the voice codec.

My question is : is the DaVinci DM365 powerful enough to power a loud speaker of let's say between 0.5W to 1W power ?

Thanks for your reply.

Based on the TMS320DM365 datasheet in Section 6.26, the integrated voice codec is able to drive a 200mW to 300mW speaker output with a R(load)=8 ohms.

Therefore, if you need a 0.5W to 1W output, I would suggest you consider one of our Class-D amplifiers to be used as well.
Something like the TPA2001D1 can drive 1W into R(load)=8 ohms.  There is an Evaluation Module for the TPA2001D1.
