AM5728: AM5728 reference design power rails

Part Number: AM5728
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54531,

What are the output current taken from TPS54531 used on AM5728 reference design?

5V0 ?

USB_5V?

VDD_3V3?

  • Hi,

Unfortunately, this isn't an easy answer. The current requirements on these power supplies depend on your application and on what other boards you have connected to your EVM. You can use the power estimation tool to determine the current draw for the TPS54531. The rest will require some analysis for your expected environment.

  • Thanks for the answer.

Yes, I have tried to estimate power consumption.

If I look into design, it looks like most of power is taken from 3.3V rail. 2000...3000mA depending of the use case? This is PS_3V3 and VDD_3V3 total. Right?

USB_5V feeds USB and SATA connectors. If only 2000mA is used for USB and no SATA,  then 3000mA is left from 5A rail. Right?

5V0 only feeds some low power rails of LDA's (VDD_SHV5, VDD_SD,VUSB), HDMI max 55mA, LEDS and Fan. So basically whole 5V0 (>4000mA)  is left for the the extension modules. Right?

    Are this assumptions right?

  • One more specific question : How much AM5728 draws from VDD_SHV5?
  • Hi Jari,
I've checked with the design team and we don't have any specific analysis of the peripheral rail, only for the assumptions made for the SoC rails. VDD_SHV5 was designed to support 300mA. I would need to do a worst case analysis of the rest of the board but it appears you have already done that. I suggest you approach that portion of you design based on your needs.
