66AK2G12: metal lid of ABY package

Hi,

My customer would like to know about metal lid of ABY package. The are now trying to design their custom board with 66AK2G12 and surprised by package lid because its material is metal.
The question from the customer is which documents actually state that 66AK2G12 has metal lid rather than plastic one. Could you please suggest ?
I`ve searched the datasheet, but i could not find the statement.

Hi,

There is the device nomenclature in the datasheet & ABY0625A Package Drawing (www.ti.com/.../mpbgan3.pdf) when you click on the package links in the sample buy tab in the product folder www.ti.com/.../samplebuy . However these documents don't suggest whether there is a metal lid or not.

Is this metal lid an issue with the customer design?

Thanks for your reply.
I don't think the metal lid can be an issue for now, but the problem is that is not documented in the datasheet or something.
This is an extreme example, but if you changed the package spec in the future, we could not complain about it. How do you think ?

I'm asking about the size of metal lid, not its material. I understand the material is not indicated, but how about the metal lid size ? Can you suggest ?

I have never seen a TI package drawing that specifies the lid is metal. Non-molded packages typically have a cavity where the die is placed with metal lid covering it.

With respect to your concern about the package or package materials changing, this is very unlikely. There is a significant effort required to qualify a package, which is done for every TI device. We are not allowed to change the package without re-qualifying the new package.

Thermal characteristics of the package would most likely change if any portion of the package was changed. This would definitely be the case if the metal lid was eliminated since it is thermally bonded to the back-side of the die. If this type of change was made, TI would need to update the data sheet with new thermal characteristics which initiates a Product Change Notification (PCN) that is sent to everyone that has purchased the device.

You are correct the metal lid is 17mm square as indicated by the feature you highlighted in the package drawing.
