AM5706: Wake-up and low-power modes

Part Number: AM5706
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65218D0

Hi Team,

My customer is looking for a device to suit following use-case:

- They need to wake-up every 15min (scheduled or triggered by e.g. PIR sensor) and take a picture and send via WiFi

- Other than that should be in some standby, I am afraid on battery.

Does AM5706 have any capability to support that wake-up scenario? (how? Which co-processors or block would take care of that functionality?)

How long would it take to wake up on RTOS?

How much power would it consume while “sleeping”?

To summarize, would you say that AM5706 can be suitable for that use-case? Choice of other processors is limited because hey need a serial MIPI interface.

Regards

Andreas

  • Hi Andreas,

AM570x only supports and Active, Standby, or Off mode. The Standby mode is not a power mode low enough for battery use. It requires the PMIC to stay on and continue powering the SoC supplies while the SoC is in Standby. The power at room temp is over 1W at 3.3V input to the PMIC so these losses are not worth running on battery. RTC-only mode is not supported on this chip so turning off the PMIC supplies like in other Sitara parts is not possible.

Can you consider AM3 or AM4 with the TPS65218D0 for lower power states like RTC-only mode?

    Regards,
    Ahmad
