I want to evaluate JPEG encode/decode support in the VSDK. please help provide below information.

1. which hardware component provides such accelerating functionality?

2. How can I make use of such acceleration in the SW?

Hi,

TI supports MJPEG encode decode.
Please refer to the below usecase
vision_sdk\apps\src\rtos\usecases\vip_single_cam_view_encdec

Basically IVA is the HW which is responsible for MJPEG encode or decode.

Thanks for your reply. I notice there are GST plugins ducatijpegdec and ducatijpegenc in the VSDK release,

root@dra7xx-evm:~# gst-inspect-1.0 | grep ducatijpeg

ducati: ducatijpegdec: DucatiJpegDec

ducati: ducatijpegenc: JPEG Encoder

vpeplugin: ducatijpegdecvpe: ducatijpegdecvpe

So they are also for JPEG encode/decode purpose and based on IVA, right?

furthermore If I want to use JPEG encode/decode with GST plugins, do I need activate IPUMM?

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response.

Inorder to use gstreamer you have enable IPUMM.
Any kind of codec related plugin interacts with codec enegine running on IPU cores and uses IVA HW.
