Linux/AM3354: Daisy Chain Implementation using with EtherCat

Dear TI Team,

Currently in our custom board there is only one RMII interface available to be used. In "EtherCAT® on Sitara™ Processors" document it seems that it is needed to use 2xEthernet PHY(Currently one pcs is available on our board. For the second one there is no restriction for us to use). And again in same document the interface which is used for ETHERCAT is MII. So Based on this we would like to kindly ask you the possibility of a daisy chain implementation with using EtherCat over one RMII.

Zafer,

For Ethercat daisy chain, you have to use two MII interfaces from PRU-ICSS. One interface is for input (packet forwarding path) from EtherCAT master, and another is for output (reverse path) that returns to the master. MII interface helps reduce forwarding delay and jitter.

Dear Garrett,

I would like to double check one point regarding with Ethercat: Can It only be used with 2x MII interfaces or can we make the same configuration with 2xRMII interfaces?

Zafer,

The PRU-ICSS EtherCAT software can only be used with 2xMII interfaces from PRU-ICSS on AM335x, and doesn't work with 2xRMII interfaces from CPSW.
