Is there a kernel in the Sitara support world that would be compatible ENOUGH that we could build a new, more modern, kernel for our existing product which is based on the DaVinci chipset. (ie 1 ARM and 1 DSP processor in pkg)

Hi Ralph,

The latest kernel that is compatible with DM8168 device is 2.6.37

arago-project.org/.../

From Sitara devices, the most compatible device is AM335x, you can try to port AM335x kernel v4.14.79 to DM816x device:

software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html

Or you can try to port DM812x v4.4.12 kernel on DM816x device:

Thank you for the info.

Can you comment on the likelihood of our success with either of these options.

Can you suggest what kinds of problems we might run into - drivers etc. ?

I'll add a 2nd question in reply: Does your organization have a lead (inside your organization or an independent) on someone who has been through this kind of things and whom we could hire to attempt the port on our behalf.

The bottom line is my team want to update their tool chain, and at the moment, the aging Davinci kernel appears to be in our way.
