AM3352: CPSW switch mode during warm reset

Part Number: AM3352

Customer's system as below, they want to implement when node A on the network hang or reset, node B  and node C still can communicate with PC.

Set ISO_CONTROL=1 already. trigger watchdog reset on A, but on PC can't find node B and C after that. so the A node switch doesn't work as TRM described.

Any other need to be configured for this feature?

  • Hi Tony,
Please refer to Advisory 1.0.23. Ethernet Isolation is not supported and must remain disabled on this device.
  • DK,

#1. From the description, it "MAY" lock up, not "MUST", Can I understand sometimes it will work?

#2. If the host port is not transmitting data, it won't lock?

#3. What is mean of the "host port", one of the 2 external port of the CPSW? or the one connect to internal bus? Or the external device?

  • Tony,

Because the warm reset can be asynchronous, it's not possible to characterize all cases of if/when it will occur (hence the term "may"). The Host port in this context is the internal port, and by association, both downstream ports.

Reset Isolation for CPSW is not supported and shouldn't be enabled.

  • DK,

#1. I didn't see such advisory on AM437x errata, so the feature is supported on AM437x?

#2. Any way to workaround the limitation? no matter from hardware or software? it is the key feature of customer's system to remain the whole network active even one of the node doesn't working.

#3. If ensure host port doesn't transmitting data before issue a warm reset( trigger watchdog reset), will the 3PSW works as RESET ISOLATION.

  • Tony,
    1) Yes.
    2) No. This functionality can't be supported on AM335x.
    3) This cannot be guaranteed. Because the errata was identified early in the device characterization, the decision was made to de-scope the feature and characterization of same was stopped.
