TMS320C5535: Interface 16 * 2 LCD with dsp c5535

Hello,

I am trying to interface a 16 * 2 LCD with DSP c5535. It has an inbuilt OLED display but it is small for my requirement. Is it possible to interface an external display?

Please provide me any reference for interfacing external display.

Hi Aditya,

I can not suggest you a completed reference design solution but I can give you some advices.
The easiest approach is to use LCD 1602 display with I2C serial interface adapter module like this (only for example):

or

Then you can connect I2C module to TMS320C5535 I2C pins and you CSL I2C DMA example for I2C writing.

The LCD I2C address is in range 0x20-0x27.

The other approach is connect LCD pins to DSP without I2C serial interface adapter but then you should write your own LCD write functions.

Thanks for your reply. I will try with I2C. Just a small doubt with I2C, should I send the LCD commands directly via I2C?

I mean sending the LCD commands directly using I2C write function provided in CSL Library.
