These board level tests require CCS and JTAG to run; I do not believe there is a full peripheral type driver, but there are basic USB tests you can start from (no OS).

True; since USB controllers can be quite complex, I am not sure if I have ever seen an implementation that is not based on an OS.

You could refer to U-Boot MUSB code as reference.  It implements host functionality but has seperation for device mode.  We plan to implement device mode down the line but plans are not finalized yet.

what sort of application you are planning to use when in usb device mode?  Why are you looking at a non-os path?

I want my device to boot from an inexpensive NOR flash and then load the actual image (which may be Linux-based) via USB.

Then u-boot is the place to look.  I am not sure if all the USB functionality you require is there already, but this is where you would need to add support for your USB device if necessary.

Is this code available with the EVM? Swami mentioned MUSB - what is that? Could you please point me to the right software package?

You gotta have the whole Linux package installed on a Linux host system. I used VMware to create one from Red Hat for instance. Under /home/user/workdir/lsp/ti.. you should have the complete Linux kernel code.

The MUSB path is under ../drivers/usb/ and the device implementation is called gadget. The USB part is pretty spread out and it is very hard to get everything together to make your own little module for CodeComposer. You'll have to understand the whole enumeration part first (look at www.usb.org). Unfortunately TI did not provide any sample code so far. Other vendors do that.

The real problem is understanding the hardware. SPRUFH9 (http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/litabsmultiplefilelist.tsp?literatureNumber=sprufh9a) gives you a lot of information. But I'm also struggling with some parts related to the DMA transfers and I'm in contact with TI to get it working.

I wish TI would come out with a USB sample for CCS (TI's main development tool) on DaVinci or OMAP. I guess all of them have the same USB hardware.

No "gadget" source files [:(]

Can't seem to find the MUSB path in my lsp installation. I have a demo version downloaded from TI. All I have is include files, no usb source files.  Am I missing something? Could someone please post the usb gadget source files? Thanks!

I installed from the EVM CD following all instructions and my full path is: /home/user/workdir/lsp/ti-davinci/linux-2.6.18_pro500/drivers/usb/musb.

you need to go through all of them and use ../drivers/usb/gadget/zero.c as an example. I started by placing printk into almost all functions, compile the kernel with gadget zero, load it and connecting USB to a host. This way you can find out, what is called when and what registers had to be checked or programmed.
