Is Linux absolutely required?

I'd prefer not to use Linux on DM365, maybe use a simpler OS, or no OS at all. How tightly is available DM365 software (algorithms, framework components, codec engine) coupled with Linux? Which of those? Where should I start the "decoupling" if that's possible?

  • I recommend sticking with Linux.  It would not be easy at all to decouple the software from Linux.  If you were to move to away from Linux you would need to port the Codec Engine, dsplink, drivers, DMAI, DVSDK to run in that environment.  It would be a huge undertaking.  Unless you have an army of engineers that can figure really tough things out with little support from TI, then I highly recommend staying on the Linux path which is where we can best support you.  If some issue comes up then you at least have a prayer that TI can reproduce the issue and offer a patch.  With your own OS it would be pretty difficult.  I've seen it done before, but it was a difficult process.
