Linux/DRA80M: SD Card not recognized on VirtualBox

I've installed Ubuntu18.04 on VirtualBox on a Dell XPS13 PC. I've been trying to go through the SDK installation steps: http://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-linux/esd/docs/05_03_00_07/linux/Overview_Getting_Started_Guide.html#linux-sd-card-creation-guide

The SD card isn't recognized on Ubuntu. Its an 8GB Lexar SD Card and t does get recognized on Windows. The error that I see when I try to run the create-sdcard.sh script per the getting started guide is: "press y to redetect the SD-card and n to exit script".

I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Hi Yukt,

can you run following commands:

mount
cat /proc/partitions

first without the card inserted and then with inserted card and show the output?

Please see attached result for your request. The first list is for 'without SD card' and the second is with SD card inserted.

The first screenshot is with SD card and the second is without SD card.

Hello Yukt,

VirtualBox can only view devices that are connected through USB. So the SD card reader built into a laptop might not be USB and therefore it will not appear in VirtualBox. You need to use a USB to SD Card reader in this case.

After you confirm that you are using a USB to SD Card reader, you need to import the USB device to VirtualBox. See the screen shot attached.

Hello,
I tried it with the USB to SD card reader. It doesn't show up in the options when I try to import it in VirtualBox.

Does it appear in Windows at least? If not, I can suggest rebooting the PC, try other USB ports, and another USB cable if possible. Unfortunately I don't know how to help further.

I was able to solve it by creating a .vmdk file and running VirtualBox as administrator.
