Hi Team,

I'm AM3359 processor for my design.What is the programing process for the SPI flash if the primary boot mode setting is for SPI?

Is the code downloaded from the AM3359 debug tool via the 20-pin header? Or do we need a separate header for the SPI flash?. Please clarify me query.

Hi Biser,

I don't have the software scope of the board, but i assumed that most probably it will in linux platform, but can you tell me the process for both the linux and TI- RTOS.

For Linux you can find the process here: software-dl.ti.com/.../Foundational_Components_U-Boot.html You will need to boot the board to U-boot prompt form another boot source beforehand.

I will ask the RTOS team to comment about their procedure. They will post directly here.

For Booting i have given to SPI , clarify whether i can program the device using JTAG itself or We need a separate header for the programming.

There are a couple of ways for flashing the SPI using either JTAG Or UART. We provide a SPI flash writer utility that can be loaded over JTAG in the folder in Processor SDK RTOS installation:

pdk_am335x_1_0_xx\packages\ti\starterware\tools\flash_writer

Instructions for flashing and booting from SPI are provided here:

The other option is the new production flashing tool that we provide called Uniflash. This is a tool that allows users to use UART or JTAG based flashing in a command line environment similar to TI MCU platforms:

Hope these pointers help. Please note the tools are designed to work out of the box for TI evaluation platforms so for custom hardware, you may need source modifications to indicate the flash used and the external memory used on your platform.

Other than UART or JTAG , if i want to program the NOR through the separate header can i use the above uniflash tool or is that any other way to program it if i want to do it with a separate header.

Could you be a little more specific ? From your response, I am not sure what interface the header connects to ? If you are asking if TI provides a host tool to program SPI NOR flash by connecting to the flash SPI data, clock and chip select pins then the answer is "no". All of the tools that we provide require downloading of image to target and then using ARM core on the SOC to program the flash connected to the SPI interface.

Hope that clarifies the implementation. Currently there is no near term plan to extend support for Uniflash beyond UART And JTAG interface.
