Linux: how to set 4-bit SW ecc in Kernel

Hi,

     We have TI DRA71X and SDK 3.04. WE have 1-bit software ECC in U-Boot and in Kernel device tree we have "SW" as the ecc-mode. BUt while booting up, we get  a warning message saying that configuration is weaker compared to Device's 4 Bit ECC. How to set this in kernel. When we tried "bch4" we got out MTD partitions were not coming up and booting failed. How to configure kernel for 4 bit software ECC. ALso I have another question, how to check/debug that ECC is working properly or not?
